The May Court Club of Kitchener-Waterloo

The May Court Club of Kitchener-Waterloo has been actively involved in this community through volunteer efforts by approximately 200 dedicated women since 1968.

The May Court Shop is staffed mainly by volunteers (both members and non-members) and also provide employment opportunities for local young people who supplement our volunteer hours.

Service Projects

  1. Afternoon Centre - Offers a weekly interest program attended by an average of 26 mothers and 16 children. Seven members and eleven volunteers staff this centre
  2. Evening Centre - Offers a program for women only. Fifteen women attend weekly sessions that are staffed by 3 members
  3. Special Care Committee - Eight members provide a weekly program for 35-40 ex-psychiatric patients living in two group homes
  4. Food Boxes - Provides needy school children with snack and lunch items in about 87 schools. One member currently co-ordinates the supplies and 4 other members and 1 volunteer assist with the delivery of refills. This year, approximately 288 boxes of food have been provided to area schools.

Fund Raising Projects

  1. Nearly New Shop - Staffed by 58 members and 43 volunteers and operates 6 days a week. Five paid students run the shop on Friday nights, all day Saturday and during the summer months. An estimated profit of $55,000 is anticipated this year.
  2. Christmas Dreams Project - Aside from our Nearly New Shop, this is by far our most successful fundraiser. our 36 members and 16 volunteers decorated 26 beautiful Christmas items. Profit from the raffle was over $35,000. We managed over 600 volunteer hours of active ticket sales.
  3. Flower Sales - In its 13th year, flats are pre-ordered and prepaid in the spring, with delivery in mid-May
  4. Puppet Shows - Two members and 6 volunteers presented 24 shows to area schools. Each show was comprised of three plays.
  5. Next Generation Lottery - Five young women have formed a Next Generation Group this year. Their first official fundraiser netted $1715 with the funds being donated to the Rotary Children's Centre Music Program.
